Hence, our jewellery requires upkeep through the seasons, especially during monsoon. Here are a few tips to protect your jewellery from losing their lustre.

It goes without saying that one should not wear jewellery in the rain. Your precious pieces are prone to being tarnished in the rain. If your jewellery does get wet, then dry them thoroughly before you put them back in the case.

Rather than going for gold and platinum jewellery, go for silver because gold and platinum are more prone to corrosion and early loss of lustre.

Your pearl and coral jewellery requires special care. And in this season they need to be protected from erosion. So, keep them safe by enveloping them in plastic wrappers to avoid possible friction with other pieces, or keep them in a different box.

Moisture dampens the look of your baubles, so always keep a silica pad in your jewellery boxes. It protects your precious stones by absorbing the moisture. You can also opt for air-tight plastic bags or boxes to store your jewellery. This gives the metal alloys in your jewellery less oxygen to react to and keeps their shine intact.

Protect your jewels by regular cleansing. It is essential for good maintenance. Clean your diamonds and other stones with mild soapy water or by using a jewellery cleaning solution. But refrain from using cleaning solution for pearls and corals. To make your silver pieces shine, you can rub white toothpaste on them and clean them off with a soft cloth.
