Summer’s here. And it’s a perfect time to accessorise those salads
A sharpener that shaves vegetables, a lemon spray that turns lemon into a spritzer and a peeler that can remove pulp from fruit -- making a salad can be fun if you have the right equipment.
The sun is out, and so should your salad-making accessories be. “A few instruments are all that’s needed to turn the boring task of making a salad into something fun, and create something that looks good on a plate or bowl,” says Sneha Raisoni, 33, founder of Tappu Ki Dukaan (TKD), an online site that sells quirky kitchen accessories.
So look for the carrot sharpener – which can shave vegetables such as carrots, zucchini and cucumber into interesting spirals. Or opt for the pineapple corer, which turns the fruit into symmetrical rings, and leaves behind a punch bowl that you can eat or drink out of.

There’s also the Pop Chef, which lets you make circles, hearts, flowers, butterflies and stars out of different fruits and vegetables. Rekha Nair, 27, a housewife from Kemps Corner, credits it with making it easier to feed fruit to her family. “This helps me make snack time fun since the shapes are catchy and small enough to fit into tiffin boxes. Now, eating fruit is no longer a task and they look forward to it,” she says.
And there is the Lemon Spray, a device that you can attach to a lemon that allows you to spray the juice, all without messing your hands. Bhagyashree Tikas, 26, a digital marketing executive, bought the product a month back. “It is extremely cute, quirky and handy. Since it works like a spray, the juice spreads evenly in your salad thus improving its tanginess,” she says.
