UPRERA to go online from July 22

The official website of the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UPRERA), where the builders would be able to register or declare their projects as RERA compliant, would be ready by July 22.

Principal secretary, housing, Deepak Singhal, who held a meeting with the officials, has set timelines to ensure that basic infrastructure is in place to enable the online registration process.

“The account for depositing necessary fee and charges at the time of registration has been opened. Instructions have been issued to appoint staff to manage the process,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

An office-bearer of the UP Confederation of Real Estate Developers, who has been keeping a close watch on the developments, confirmed the move.

“The revised rules would take time to be notified. Till such time, existing rules would apply on those (read builders/developers) who wish to register or declare their projects as RERA compliant,” he said.

The first-ever law of the country to clean up the real estate sector, beset by problems of delayed projects, came into force on May 1. “Time has now come for home-buyers to start demanding RERA registration number from builders and developers before booking a flat,” said an official.

He said both consumers and builders would face some teething troubles as it was a fledgling law but concerns and issues raised by real estate developers’ bodies would be addressed soon.

“We have not been able to advertise our project since May 1 when the law came into force. There is no framework ready to register a project and the law prohibits new launches without registration,” said managing partner of a prominent real estate firm in Lucknow.

Similar problem is being faced by developers of Noida and Greater Noida who approached the interim chairman of RERA (principal secretary, housing) but they were asked to wait till the website got ready.
