UP Board fixes 18 as upper age limit for high school candidates

The UP Board of Secondary Education has decided that students below 14 and above 18 years of age will not be allowed to appear in its high school (class 10) examination as regular candidates.

This decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided by Board’s director Amarnath Verma here on Wednesday evening to check the copying mafia in its tracks.

Proposals for online accreditation to schools and expansion of the yoga syllabus for classes 10 and 12 were also approved at the same meeting.

The officials gave their unanimous consent to steps to prevent schools from enrolling more students than their capacity.

The UP Board rulebook had no age limit for high school examination regular candidates so far.

As a result, schools used to make candidates as old as 30 to 40 years of age appear in the high school examination as regular students. The tactic was adopted largely to help them get government jobs by reducing their official age.

The officials also agreed to increase the marks for yoga to 20 from six in high school and five in class 12. The decisions taken at the meeting will be forwarded to the state government for approval after which necessary changes would be made in the UP Board Act 1921.
