Science leaning would be fun for students in government schools
The new science kit that has been provided to their school by the education department for making science fun and encouraging innovation among students.
The children of upper primary classes in government school of Miyanganj, Barabanki are an excited lot these days. Experimenting with circuits, magnets, wires and lenses, the students are enjoying science practical sessions in addition to their theory classes.
Thanks to the new science kit that has been provided to their school by the education department for making science fun and encouraging innovation among students. The kit comprises some basic chemicals, slides, beakers, circuits, lens, microscope, thermometers etc. While the kit has already been received and its use has also begun, work has also started for the development of a proper science lab for the students in the school campus.
Ashutosh Anand Awasthi, teacher at the primary school, who has been awarded by the President for his innovative teaching methods, said, “Two upper primary schools from every block have been selected for setting up the model science labs. A budget of Rs45,000 has been sanctioned for the same.” Awasthi told that work for the lab was in progress and very soon it would get functional.
The initiative is part of the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan started by former president of India, Bharat Ratna, APJ Abdul Kalam. The Abhiyan focused on developing the spirit of innovation and experimentation among students. But science lab isn’t all for the students in this new academic session. Introducing science clubs for students and ensuring activities and trips as part of the club has also been proposed. The schools have been instructed to get a mathematics kit also to make mathematics fun for students.
“There are many topics in the syllabus for which a laboratory was needed. We would do some small experiments that did not require many equipments. But this science kit and lab will surely help us to deliver quality education,” said Awasthi.
While the idea of setting up science lab has come recently, Awasthi had already introduced a corner in his school where the students performed some basic experiments. Developing coolers, generators, etc were some of the experiments carried by the students of the school.
