Bhatkhande’s e-journal on classical music soon

Classical music connoisseurs will soon be able to access all the details about classical ragas, rare music recordings, music reviews, updates of the music world, and a lot more through an e-journal to be launched by the Bhatkhande Music Institute (deemed university) soon.

The institute is planning to launch a monthly e-journal on music for the tech-savvy, the groundwork for which has already started.

Shruti Sadolikar Katkar, vice chancellor of the institute, said, “We have started planning about various sections of the journal. The plan is to launch it in this session only.”

To begin with, the teachers of the college would handle the content of the journal.

Later on, contributions by students would also be included, said Katkar, the brain behind the concept.

She said the plan is to make it a lively and informative journal.

The writings that would be posted on the journal would be well researched and cover the intricate aspects of music genres.

“Students these days don’t want to spend time in the library and read the rich music literature. Not many music journals are available in the market also.

To cater to the net savvy students, we thought of doing it e-way,” said the V-C.

The journal would be available on the institute’s website and would offer free readership. Right from the achievement of the college students to updates, analysis and reviews-all would be a part of the journal.

Articles by renowned music experts would also be incorporated from time to time.

Since Bhatkhande has a rich music bank and has a collection of rare music videos and recordings, they too would be a special attraction of the journal.

If all goes well, the frequency of the journal would be made fortnightly, said the V-C.

“The journal would provide ample opportunity to the teachers to express their views about the subject. It would also broaden the perspective of students,” a faculty member said.
