Akhilesh Yadav hits back at BJP, asks where is bullet train
People in Varanasi are still waiting to see their city being transformed into Kyoto. There is no sign of bullet train. The common man’s hard-earned money has been deposited in banks, the Samajwadi Party chief said.
Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said in its three-year rule at the Centre, it had failed miserably to deliver the promises made to the people.
“People in Varanasi (the PM’s constituency) are still waiting to see their city being transformed into Kyoto. There is no sign of bullet train. The common man’s hard-earned money has been deposited in banks. Every section of the society, be it youths, farmers, students or teachers is a harassed lot. Women too are not safe,” he said.
Reacting to BJP chief Amit Shah’s remarks at a press conference in Lucknow on Monday that his party did not believe in inaugurating half-done projects like Lucknow Metro or Agra Expressway, Akhilesh said he built the expressway in 22 months and the BJP had nothing to show in its entire tenure so far.
“Fighter planes can land on this expressway and it takes commuters just five hours to reach Lucknow from Noida. This is quicker than the time taken by Shatabdi (a superfast train) to cover the distance,” he tweeted soon after Shah’s comment.
“The BJP says there is corruption in the UP Police Dial 100 service. Whose government is there in UP?” the SP chief tweeted.
Later, in a press statement, Akhilesh said the BJP was back to promoting its “votebank, communal and castiest agenda.”
“And now by associating food with caste (referring to the lunch Shah had at the residence of a Yadav member of the party), they have yet again shown their narrow mindset,” he said. Accusing the BJP of indulging in horse-trading of MLAs and MLCs, Akhilesh said because of its non-performance and unfulfilled promises, the party was afraid it would lose badly if it sought the people’s mandate.
“The BJP has formed governments in Bihar, Goa and Manipur by indulging in political corruption. It would, however, have to face elections in 2019 on its peformance,” he said, adding that UP would play a crucial role in government formation at the Centre.
