With assets worth Rs102 crore, INLD’s Virender Rana is richest Haryana Lok Sabha candidate
Following INLD’s Virender Rana, who is contesting from Gurugra Lok Sabha seat, is Congress candidate Shruti Choudhry with assets worth ₹97 crore. Choudhry, an ex-MP and daughter of CLP leader Kiran Choudhry, is contesting from the Bhiwani-Mahendergarh constituency.
With total assets worth ₹102 crore, Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD’s) Virender Rana is the richest candidate contesting the Lok Sabha polls in Haryana. Surprisingly, Rana, a businessman, stated in his affidavit that he and his wife do not own any motor vehicle. The couple has invested mostly in security bonds.

Following Rana, who is contesting from Gurugram, is Congress candidate Shruti Choudhry with assets worth ₹97 crore. Choudhry, an ex-MP and daughter of CLP leader Kiran Choudhry, is contesting from the Bhiwani-Mahendergarh constituency.
She individually has assets worth ₹74 crore, which clubbed with her husband’s, reach the ₹97-crore mark. Choudhry’s movable assets, worth ₹16 crore, include 10kg gold and 75kg silver, while her properties worth ₹56 crore include both agriculture land and residential buildings, either inherited or acquired. In comparison to 2014, Choudhry’s net worth has come down by ₹13.5 crore.
Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala, whose total movable and immovable assets are worth ₹49.6 crore, comes next. The former INLD leader, who floated the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) after he was expelled over anti-party activities, is once again contesting from Hisar constituency. He is facing two newcomers — BJP’s Brijendra Singh and Congress’ Bhavya Bishnoi.
Another Congress leader and three-time Rohtak MP, Deepender Hooda, follows Chautala in terms of wealth. The Congress MP, along with his wife, has declared assets worth ₹44.7 crore in his affidavit. In 2014, Deepender’s assets were worth ₹35.87 crore.
Interestingly, JJP candidate from Sonepat, Digvijay Chautala, who had earlier this year contested the Jind bypoll, has declared a Range Rover car worth ₹25 lakh as one of his assets.
The car, however, had not found any mention in his asset declaration filed earlier for the bypoll. Along with the swanky car, the JJP leader’s assets are worth ₹25.8 crore.
The examination of affidavits submitted by leaders shows that there is no dearth of crorepatis in fray. These include BJP’s Krishan Pal Gurjar ( ₹37 crore), Rao Inderjit Singh ( ₹30.81 crore), Ramesh Kaushik ( ₹23.5 crore), Dharambir Singh ( ₹6 crore), Sunita Duggal ( ₹4.79 crore) and Brijendra Singh ( ₹4.6 crore), Congress’ Capt Ajay Yadav ( ₹19 crore), Ashok Tanwar ( ₹5.7 crore) and Bhupinder Singh Hooda ( ₹15.5 crore).
Tuesday marked the last day of filing of nominations for the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana, voting for which will be held on May 12.
