On Gambhir’s ‘filth’ tweet, Kejriwal responds with a defamation notice
Delhi CM has sent a legal notice to BJP East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir over his defamatory tweets. The notice also asks cricketer-turned-politician to tender an apology or face legal action.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday sent out a legal notice to the Bharatiya Janata Party and its candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir over two defamatory tweets.

In the defamation notice, Arvind Kejriwal listed two tweets that Gautam Gambhir had posted on Twitter on May 9.
In his tweets, Gautam Gambhir was reacting to the circulation of a derogatory pamphlet allegedly circulated against his rival and AAP candidate from East Delhi Atishi. The AAP had accused the BJP and Gambhir of having circulated the derogatory pamphlet.
Kejriwal’s defamation notice comes after Gautam Gambhir sent out defamation notices to the Delhi chief minister and his deputy Manish sisodia and Atishi asking them to withdraw their charges against him and tender an unconditional apology or face legal action.
In his tweet, Gambhir wrote that he “abhors your act of outraging a woman’s modesty”.
In a subsequent tweet, he had written, “I feel ashamed to have a CM like @ArvindKejriwal”.
The defamation notice lists Gambhir’s tweets as being in violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The notice also asks Gambhir to tender an apology or face legal action.
Earlier, Gambhir had stepped up the offensive against the Aam Aadmi Party and had claimed that if the party can prove that he had any links to the derogatory pamphlet, he would “hang” himself in public.
Gambhir said that if AAP fails to prove the allegations, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should quit politics.
Meanwhile, the BJP backed Gambhir and hit out at both the AAP and Atishi.
“Earlier, she played caste card and now she is playing woman card,” Delhi BJP vice president Shazia Ilmi said in a press conference.
Union minister Vijay Goel said that the BJP does not support the language of the pamphlet and questioned why the AAP did not file any police complaint in this regard.
“Levelling allegations without proof is petty politics. The AAP has targeted Gambhir because he is winning the polls from East Delhi,” Goel said.
