Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Ranjit Singh Brahmpura’s nephew Gurinder Singh Tony joins SAD

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Tony Brahmpura joined the SAD along with his supporters and wife Rupinder Kaur, who is a member of the Zila Parishad, at a party meeting in Tarn Taran.

In a setback to Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali), Gurinder Singh Tony Brahmpura, nephew of Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, on Wednesday joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the presence of former minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

Tony Brahmpura joined the SAD along with his supporters and wife Rupinder Kaur, who is a member of the Zila Parishad, at a party meeting in Tarn Taran. He was welcomed into the Akali fold with a ‘siropa’ by Bikram Majithia and SAD Khadoor Sahib candidate Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Speaking on the occasion, Tony Brahmpura said he was disillusioned by the Taksali band, only to realise later that the party was infact a front of the Congress.

“I have seen the functioning of this Taksali group up close and have no hesitation in admitting that they have sold their soul to the Congress,” he added.

Majithia said those who had voted and supported Ranjit Brahmpura for the Khadoor Sahib constituency were now feeling cheated.

Speaking about the role of Brahmpura, the former minister said when a by-election was necessitated in Khadoor Sahib assembly constituency, the SAD was not keen to contest the election in the wake of sacrilege incidents.

However, Ranjit Singh Brahmpura hadinsisted that the party should contest and even forwarded the name of his son Ravinder Singh Brahmpura for the poll.

“Parkash Singh Badal visited each and every constituency to solicit votes for Brahmpura’s son. Ravinder won the seat with a margin of 67,000 votes, but ten months later when he had to contest on his own he lost the seat by 15,000 votes. This surely poses question on his functioning as he lost the goodwill of his constituents in such a short time”.

Meanwhile, SAD (Taksali) chief said, “Tony is not my real nephew. His leaving the party will have not impact SAD (Taksali) in general elections.”

He said, “Bikram Singh Majithia is in fear as SAD (Taksali) has been getting a huge support of voters in Khadoor Sahib. Tricks of Majithia will not work this time and SAD will face a big defeat from Khadoor Sahib.”
