Lok Sabha elections 2019: EC FILES PLAINT against Deora for violating MODEL CODE
This action was taken on the complaint of Shiv Sena, which alleged Deora was spreading a lie that its workers had cooked meat outside a Jain temple during Paryushan.
Following directives by the Maharashtra State Election Commission (MSEC), local election authorities on Friday filed a complaint against South Mumbai Congress candidate Milind Deora for violating the model code of conduct during his election campaign.
This action was taken on the complaint of Shiv Sena, which alleged Deora was spreading a lie that its workers had cooked meat outside a Jain temple during Paryushan.
Paryushan is a holy period for Jains, during which they fast. The Sena was quick to refute, saying that they had never indulged in such an action.
HT tried to contact Deora and Sena candidate Arvind Sawant, but both were unavailable for a comment.
Both are now fighting a high-pitched battle for the prestigious Mumbai South constituency. In 2016, there was controversy during the Paryushan period as the state government ordered the closure of abattoirs and meat shops.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) forced open shops and protested, following which the order was withdrawn.
