Jamshedpur candidate Bidyut becomes crorepati, Champai’s wealth grows three times in five years

While BJP candidate from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat Bidyut Baran Mahato’s assets doubled in the last five years, assets of his arch rival Champai Soren, a grand alliance candidate, have grown by over three times.

As per the Mahato’s affidavit filed with the Jamshedpur returning officer (RO) Amit Kumar on Saturday, outgoing Jamshedpur MP’s total assets now stands at ₹1.76 crore from ₹94 lakh in 2014. He has declared to have movable assets worth ₹65 lakh and immovable assets worth ₹1.11 crore now. His wife Usha Mahato has movable assets worth ₹48 lakh and immovable assets worth ₹38.65 lakh.
Mahato’s businessman son Kunal Mahato has movable assets worth ₹9.68 lakh and his daughter Shalini Mahato has movable assets worth ₹4.82 lakh. Bidyut has three vehicles – two Scorpio and a Fortuner while he also possesses a NP bore revolver, a NP bore rifle and a double barrel gun. His wife too has a 12 bore double barrel gun in her name. He has three cases of model code of conduct violating pending against him as of now.
On the other hand, Soren’s total assets have gone up to ₹2.28 crore from ₹62.90 lakh in 2014 while his family wealth shrunk as per the affidavit filed by him along with his nomination on Monday.
Interestingly, a matriculate in 1974 from RKM School (Bistupur), Champai’s affidavit now mentions having a son and a daughter while he had mentioned three sons and a daughter in his affidavit for 2014 assembly elections.
As per the affidavit filed on Monday with East Sighbhum returning officer (RO), Champai mentioned son Akash Soren and daughter Bala Soren but in his 2014 affidavit filed in Searaikela-Kharsawan he had mentioned two more son’s names, Babulal Soren and Simal Soren. When asked, Champai told the media that they no longer lived with him and hence their names were not mentioned in the affidavit.
As per his current affidavit, 62-year-old Champai now has movable assets worth ₹8.24 lakh and in wife’s name movable assets worth ₹89.42 lakh. He has immovable assets worth ₹48.94 lakh while his wife has immovable assets worth ₹4.42 lakh. He has ₹70, 000 and his wife ₹40, 000 while his son Akash has assets worth ₹1.19 lakh and daughter Bala ₹1.27 lakh.
He has ₹42.71 lakh in banks while his wife has ₹16.48 lakh and his son and daughter have ₹50,1800 and ₹49,1100 in banks. He also has loan worth ₹27.54 lakh in his name and ₹48.95 lakh in wife’s name. Champai has Toyota, Ambassador and Jeep worth ₹35.10 lakh in his name and two Highway vehicles worth ₹66.66 lakh in his wife’s name.
He has gold jewelry worth ₹1.23 lah and his wife Manko Soren jewelry worth ₹5.87 lakh while his son has jewelry worth ₹46,36000 and daughter jewelry worth ₹77,27000.
Champai has three weapons – a pistol, a rifle and a double barrel gun. He has a case (1993) under Explosive Act pending against him in which chargesheet has been submitted last year. Another election suit (2015) has been pending in Ranchi HC.
