For the first time in India, Bikaner-based Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS) has under taken a digital research work on anatomy of marine fish.

The digital characterisation of marine fish will help to predict about availability of particular variety and particular place.
Kamdhenu University in Gujarat has signed a MoU with RAJUVAS for a pilot project to conduct a research work and detailed study on marine fish, RAJUVAS vice-chancellor AK Gehlot told Hindustan Times.
Gehlot said fish scientists of Gandhi Nagar-based Kamdhenu University will make a digital database of internal anatomy of 20 varieties of marine fish that are found in coastal Gujarat.
Scientists Smith L and Divyesh Kelawala from Kamdhenu University, RAJUVAS’ Saakar Palecha, Satyaveer Singh, SK Jheerwal and Praveen Bishnoi, the head of surgery department, are the members of team studying the anatomy of marine fish.
The fish scientists will analyse and collect data for next 4-5 years and will correlate with the weather conditions. In future, it can be predicted as which variety of fish will be available in sea water in which weather conditions, he said.
The digital characterisation and identification of the fish will help to estimate the quantity of fish available at particular time of weather/season, he added.
This study will also help in developing marketing intelligence for fishermen and also about the climate change. Fishermen will get information in advance about the variety of fish available at particular time in the sea.
“We are first in the country to set up CT Scan machine for animals. The machine was purchased last year for a project - digital imaging technology in animal,” Gehlot said.
He said: “We are also quite excited on this pilot project on research of fish, as marine fish are not available in Rajasthan.”
Later, the scientists may study anatomy of freshwater fish, he said. Notably, around 32,000 varieties of marine fish are found worldwide.
