Eligible people not getting benefit of govt schemes: Rajasthan MLA

A number of eligible beneficiaries have not been included in the survey list of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), due to which they remain deprived of the benefits of the welfare schemes started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Manvendra Singh, the legislator from Sheo assembly constituency in Barmer district.

Singh blamed official inaction for the situation. “It is a serious situation and if not improved, not only the people will remain deprived of the benefits of the welfare schemes, but the government will also fail to fulfil its promises,” he said. The MLA said that he would talk to the higher authorities to order a detailed probe into the matter and also raise the issue in the assembly.

He said that the issue came to his knowledge during the public hearings. He said that at many places in his constituency, a number of people complained to him that despite being eligible, they were excluded from the survey list of PMAY-G. The victims told him that it was because of the official apathy and corrupt practices at ground. The DDUGJY faces the same situation, as at many places entire revenue village is missing from the survey list, he claimed.

He, however, admitted that there were some technical hurdles in the guidelines, which were also creating difficulties in proper implementations of the schemes. “I will write to the government and also raise the issue in next session of state assembly, while demanding some relaxations,” he said.

After coming to power in 2014 Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced complete electrification of the country by May 2018, while announcing DDUGJY. Similarly, PMAY-G, launched by Modi in 2015, targeted to cover about two crore families in urban areas by 2022 and one crore in rural areas by 2019.

Reacting over the issue, Ashwani Bohra, an executive engineer with the Jodhpur discom and DDUGJY incharge, said, “It is fact the there are families which have been excluded from the survey list, but we are continuously updating the list and whenever anybody approaches us or any case comes to our notice, we are adding them in the list.”

“The discom is also in touch with public representatives and if they will inform us about the left out eligible persons, their names will be included in the list,” he added.

It may be recalled that BJP MP from Barmer, Colonel Sonaram Choudhary, had also levelled similar allegation, while raising the issue in parliament. Choudhary had alleged that negligence of the survey agency and political rivalry at the local level had deprived many eligible households of the government scheme benefits. Only in Barmer, about 1.50 lakh people were deprived of the benefits, he had claimed.
