Bicycle sharing scheme rolls out in Jaipur
The scheme is part of smart mobility project of JSML aimed at promoting an eco-friendly and independent mode of transport in the city.
To promote clean environment and provide an alternative mode of transportation, Jaipur Smart City Ltd (JSCL) will launch a public bicycle sharing scheme in the city this week. Initially, the project will be launched from two locations and the facility will be extended to 20 locations across the city in a phased manner, officials said.
“The public bicycle sharing scheme will be launched within two days. Initially, the scheme will be launched from Jawahar Circle and Ram Niwas Bagh and more locations will be added in a phased manner,” Jaipur municipal commissioner Ravi Jain told HT. Jain has taken the additional charge of JSCL, the nodal agency for project works proposed under the smart city mission.
The scheme is part of smart mobility project of JSML aimed at promoting an eco-friendly and independent mode of transport in the city. According to the scheme, one can rent a bicycle from any designated docking station and return it to another docking station in the city. The minimum rent is Rs 10 per hour.
At every station, 20 cycles will be available for rent. Users will have to furnish an identity card and fill out a simple form. The form will be available at all cycle stations or can be downloaded from the company’s website. An app will also be launched for booking a cycle.
A Delhi-based firm Greenolution, which operates a similar project in the national capital, is implementing the project christened ‘Cyclo.’ With each cycle station costing about Rs 5.5 lakh, the project will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.10 crore. The company and JSML will earn revenue through advertising.
“The design of the bicycles would be trendy to motivate people to use them. The users will have the option of making payments in cash, credit card or the common mobility card,” an official said.
A similar scheme has been implemented in Mysore.
Apart from the two locations, other proposed locations for cycle stations include Rajasthan University, Trimurti Circle, Central Park, New Gate, State Assembly, Jaipur Municipal Corporation office, Moti Doongari, Janta Store, Narayan Singh Circle, Govind Marg, Rajapark, SMS Hospital, Vivekanand Marg, C-Scheme, Ajmeri Gate, Panch Batti, Government Hostel, and Albert Hall.
The locations will be added in a phase-wise manner depending on the feedback received from the people.
