Heat wave sweeps Malwa-Nimad region

Shajapur city recorded a high of 46.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Maximum temperature in Malwa-Nimad region hovered around 45 degrees at most places. Heat wave conditions prevailed in neighbouring Dhar, Ujjain, Shajapur, Ratlam among other cities.

Meteorological department regional head Anupam Kashyapi said similar weather condition will continue till June 8 after which maximum temperature will drop by degree or two. However, people will feel hot because of humidity.

Indore recorded maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day on Monday, which was highest since 1991, according to regional meteorological department in Bhopal.

The day temperature was five degrees above normal as hot, westerly winds blew at a maximum speed of 30 kilometres an hour.

The city had recorded maximum temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius on June 3, 1991. By this standard, it was another record of highest day temperature created after 25 years.

Local weather bureau, which maintains daily records of temperature, said it was the highest since 2000. However, bureau officials said they do not have temperature record of 2000, 2004 and 2005.

The minimum temperature at 28.2 degrees Celsius was three degrees above normal. Morning and evening humidity was 41% and 12%, respectively.
