“I always knew I’d make it but I hope the ambit of the civil services exam will now be widened to accommodate meritorious candidates with chronic diseases too,” Singh said. “It’s imperative to know that we have a policy to accommodate people with physical disabilities under the people with disabilities (equal opportunity, protection of rights and full participation) Act, 1995.

Yet, we have people with chronic diseases facing problems in getting medical clearance for competitive exams and job opportunities,” he told Hindustan Times at his residence in Sector 2 here on Monday evening. “This, thus, raises a fundamental issue of identifying and recognising deserving and meritorious candidates with chronic diseases to ensure they get justice,” he said. Recalling Sukhsohit’s academic achievements, his father, Wing Commander (retd) MS Bawa said his son was a regular student throughout his academic years. Sukhsohit’s mother Gursharan Kaur said she was also confident that he would make it to the civil services one day.

“After all, he has cleared the civil services exams in 2008 and 2009 besides the Rajasthan Administrative Services,” she added.
