Ward No. 56: 40 pc grudges
ENCROACHMENTS refuse to go. Only 50 per cent area has sewer lines. Parks are illmaintained; some of them haven?t even come out of papers?! So how many marks do residents give to the ward?
ENCROACHMENTS refuse to go. Only 50 per cent area has sewer lines. Parks are illmaintained; some of them haven’t even come out of papers…!

So how many marks do residents give to the ward?
Six out of ten is the average rating. That’s 60 per cent. But, why is so when the residents have many grudges?
“Yes! We have 40 per cent grudges. But, they are enough to make a ward unlivable,” says R.S Yadav, senior resident of Ward No 56.
“Parks are a big problem here. We have five parks and one of them is encroached by a Cable TV biggie. Adarsh Nagar, Patel Nagar, Teji Khera residents are still living without proper sewer system. We have a weak corporator. He can’t even fight for our rights,” says Sharad.
Vijai Gulati of Arjun Nagar says, “See, we need someone who can feel what we are suffering from. Roads are OK. But, streetlights are bad. Nights aren’t just right during rainy season. So many accidents take place due to unlit streets….”
Similarly Sanjay another resident of Arjun Nagar says, “At least, the ward should have a good drainage system. But, in the absence of one, rains turn the area into a sinking hell…But, who cares?” Sanjay of Arjun Nagar says, “But, our roads are bad. See, bad roads are big problem. Arjun Nagar is still in pathetic condition. The corporators get Rs 10 lakhs per year for spending in their wards but most of the money goes into his railway colony.”
Krishna, another resident of Patel Nagar, says: “We are still not having sewer lines, street lights are not functioning, parks are as good as non-existent.”
But, corporator Girish Mishra says, “I have pucca roads in every corner. The roads in Arjun Nagar are still in good condition despite laying of sewer lines in the area. A Sulabh complex at Tehripulia has been due to my efforts. Four of the five parks in my ward are developed. I admit one park is encroached by a land mafia in Patel Nagar.
I have written to the LMC about it.”
