Members of Subhas Chandra Bose’s family will demand a special investigation team (SIT) be formed under a sitting Supreme Court judge to probe the freedom fighter’s last days when they meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi next month, Netaji’s grand nephew said on Monday.

Members of Subhas Chandra Bose’s family will demand a special investigation team (SIT) be formed under a sitting Supreme Court judge to probe the freedom fighter’s last days when they meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi next month, Netaji’s grand nephew said on Monday.

The demand will be in addition to one for declassification of all 165 files related to Netaji amid a controversy over alleged snooping on Bose family members by successive Congress governments for 20 years between 1948 and 1968.

“The PMO asked us whether we are free to meet the PM on May 17, when he will have time for us. We have confirmed our presence on that day,” said Chandra Bose, Netaji’s grand nephew.

They will also request Modi to form high-level teams, which could access classified files kept with secret service agencies in Russia, England, Japan and Germany.

“The SIT should submit its report to Parliament and if there is any conclusive evidence regarding Netaji, it should be made public. We will also propose the investigation be overseen by a sitting judge,” said Chandra.

Several commissions have been formed after independence to probe Netaji’s mysterious disappearance after a plane crash in 1945 but doubts persist.
