Students find extra time useful
On the first day of Boards, students appeared relaxed after writing their first paper, which was English.
As the clock struck nine, Class XII students with tilaks smeared on their foreheads, rushed towards their examination halls. The day had been haunting them for months. But most students appeared relaxed when they emerged after writing their first exam English.
Anxious students and their even more anxious parents could be seen outside the centres as the month-long examination began. Most students were full of praise for the 15-minute cool-off period introduced by the CBSE this year, and the extra time to read the question paper.
“The extra time helped me acquaint myself with the questions,” Charu Chhabra, a student of St Marks, Janakpuri, said. “The paper was easy, but very lengthy. I got tired writing continuously for three hours,” Priyanka, a student of Doon Public School informed. Another student, Manoj thought the paper was very lengthy.
“Only teachers could have attempted it in 150 minutes,” he giggled. Harried parents, who waited for their children outside examination centres, broke into smiles as the children emerged waiving their question papers. “It is nice to hear that the kids did well,” remarked Shalini Malhotra, who had come to pick her daughter up.
Another positive measure taken by CBSE was to redesign three papers in Class XII physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, accountancy and business management. This move was aimed at helping students complete the exam in two-and-a-half hours.
