Student?s murder leads to bloodbath in Meerut

RESEARCH SCHOLAR Sanjeev Nagar’s murder case took a violent turn on Tuesday evening.

A constable was killed in the firing by the father of one of the accused Neeraj Malik in Jagriti Vihar locality. In retaliation, the police also opened fire and shot the attacker dead.

In the meantime, Neeraj managed to escape from the spot. His mother, however, allegedly set her own house on fire later accusing police for the misdeed.

All this happened in the aftermath of the murder of Sanjeev in RK Hostel of the university. Police succeeded in identifying one of the accused Neeraj Malik through the number of the motorcycle used by the assailants for committing the murder. The motorcycle was recovered by the police near Diggi colony, barely a few hours after the murder.

The number was immediately sent to the RTO. Neeraj Malik of Jagriti Vihar was identified as its owner. Without wasting time police planned a raid at his house and challenged Neeraj to come out and surrender. But, Neeraj’s father came out and began indiscriminate firing towards the police parties. One bullet hit constable Praveen Giri, who died on the spot. Seeing their colleague dead, cops gunned down the old man. Giri was posted in the Special Operation Group of the police.

The police have alerted all its check posts and barriers and a massive manhunt has been launched to arrest the absconding criminal.

SSP Navneet Sikera, who was not in town, would be reaching at the spot to monitor the situation. “The accused would be in police net soon,” said the SSP.

Meanwhile, additional force have been deployed in the area to control the situation and force from various police station has been called to maintain law and order.

Earlier, Sanjeev’s death an uproar among the students, who jammed the Garh road and ,in a fit of rage, smashed windowpanes of at least three passing roadways buses along with three cars. Enraged students then went on the rampage and broke glasses and furniture of a few shops at a nearby shopping plaza.

They were demanding immediate arrest of the assailants.

The cause of murder is still not clear though police are suspecting involvement of some property dealers as the deceased was associated with this trade.
