Three students of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) Hisar have created an innovative device which may help save lives during accidents.
“The idea to come up with such a device came to us after we read a NCRB report that 16 persons lose their lives every hour due to accidents and most of them don’t get proper treatment on time,” said Puneet Kumar, while talking to HT.(HT Photo)
The sensor-based and GPS-enabled device, created by Puneet Kumar, Naveen Dhaka and Rajat Saini, final-year students of electronics communication department, automatically sends SMS messages to emergency numbers, such as police and fire brigade, and family members, giving the location of vehicle involved in an accident.
“The idea to come up with such a device came to us after we read a National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report that 16 persons lose their lives every hour due to accidents and most of them don’t get proper treatment on time,” said Puneet Kumar, while talking to HT.
Cost of device
Rajat Saini said, “The device cost us only Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000, which is very nominal. If this project gets patented and automobile companies start using it, we are sure that we will make a better one with many facilities in it.”
University vice-chancellor Tankeshwar Kumar said, “We will contact automobile companies that can fit this device in their vehicles. The university will try its best for the commercialisation of the device.”
Electronics department chairperson Sanjeev Dhull said the department would help the students in every possible way.
