ONCE THEY were vital links in the administrative chain of the State government. But, the retirement left them scattered and made their life impossible.

Let’s start life afresh for a social cause. They have decided to meet once in a month to begin with. And to formalise their meeting schedule the one-time top notches got together in the city recently.
A retired IAS officer RC Tripathi, the man who has taken the initiative to regroup the retired officers, says, “After contributing 30-35 years to the service, we are moving like a free missile in the city.”
“We have retired from the service but it does not mean that we are useless. We are still mentally alert and physically active. We can contribute a lot to society, as we were doing while in the service,” Tripathi says.
“Along with strengthening the old bound and comradeship, our forum will provide support to the members. We will organise cultural programmes for the members of the association and discuss the social issues. This will help us share the joys and sorrows of retired life,” he said.
Some of the retired officers usually come across each other at club, in marriage ceremonies and parties.
They just ask each other’s well being. But, now they have decided to have the get-together of the whole family.
“Hamare bache bahar hai aur hame eek dosre ki madad karni hai (Our children are away and we need to help each other),” says another retired IAS officer. But there will be no place for politics, “we have decided to keep away from politics”, the officers said.
The officers have held senior positions in the administration and gained respect from the new generation, but still they do not wish to act as pressure group. “We are ready to give valuable suggestions and guide the new generation if asked,” the officers said.
This is a mere beginning, Tripathi said. In the first meeting around 24 officers were present, many more have expressed their desire to join the association.
Some of them could not come due to prior engagement. Majority of the retired officers are staying at NOIDA and Lucknow. Now the association will bring them together.
