Sach ka Saamna
(Facing the Truth), a man "persuaded" his wife to confess that one of their two children had been fathered by her lover and then slit her throat with a blade seriously injuring her.
Vegetable vendor Rajesh Sonkar, 40, had long suspected that his wife Asha, 40, had been unfaithful to him.
On Sunday morning, he took Asha to an isolated spot 16 km to the west of Meerut and persuaded her to play their own version of Sach ka Saamna.
In the TV show, participants are asked embarrassing, even offensive, questions about their past and move on to the next level if a lie-detector test says they are telling the truth. Rajesh assured Asha that theirs was only a "fun game" and that he would not be upset if she told him "dark secrets".
Reassured after a few questions, Asha blurted out the truth she had hidden for so many years. Rajesh lost his temper, slit her throat with a blade, and fled from the spot leaving her lying in a pool of blood.
A passerby, who found her, informed police who took her to the local hospital where she is recovering. Rajesh told his children that Asha had gone to visit her parents in Dehradun. His deception lasted two days. Police arrested him on Tuesday based on Asha's statement.
