However, with realisation setting in about the chances of victory of its candidates the PDF decided to support the left front. The move is being attributed to the efforts of the left parties to keep the votes intact and not allow a split in the traditional votes.

The PDF prior to the kicking of the election process in the state had entered into talks for seat adjustment with the ruling left front. However, the talks faild as the PDF wanted at least 10 seats and the left front not willing to budge.

The Congress-INPT alliance seems to have brought down the demand of the PDF that is now contesting two seats. The PDF leader Nakul Das has strongly castigated the Congress for what he terms joining hands with the militant outfits in a bid to capture power. He said that the primary objective of the PDF was to prevent the extremists from getting power in the state.

Das charged the INTP president Bijoy Hrangkhawl of being involved in the massacre of several innocents in the state.
