P?kla to have model, herbal parks

PANCHKULA CAN soon boast of a model park and herbal park, in addition to the over 70 sector-level parks that add a touch of green to the town.While construction work for the two-acre model park has already been initiated in Sector 20, the herbal park is being planned near Sector 25, along the Ghaggar river bank.HUDA officials informed that while the plan for the Rs 10-lakh model park has been finalised, the herbal park is still in the discussion stage, though a proposed plan has been sent to the horticulture wing.HUDA officials said the model park would have fancy lights, benches, rains shelters, joggers' track and aesthetic landscapes, besides several swings and sand pits for children.The park would be a welcome relief in the Sectors 20 and 21 area, which has too many concrete structures and no green belt so far.The city's first model park would be opened to the public in the next five months, said HUDA officials. The herbal park would have plants and trees of medicinal value and those that enrich the environment in various ways, HUDA officials told Hindustan Times.So far, each of the 30 sectors in the city has at least a couple of parks. Sector 5 has a 13-acre Town Park, 15-acre Nirjhar Vatika, 15-acre City Fountain Park and six-acre Cactus Garden, while Sector 6 boasts of a six-acre Topiary Park. Likewise, Sector 3 has a golf course and stadium.
