Delhi will once again set for a major political battle, mainly between the ruling Cong and BJP. But this time other parties aren't lagging behind in at least making their presence felt.
Delhi is once again set to witness a key political battle, mainly between the ruling Congress and BJP. However, other parties are not lagging behind in at least making their presence felt in almost all 70 seats, as a Third Front.
Five non-BJP, non-Congress parties are reported to have decided to fight the polls in Delhi together. The parties of the proposed Third Front are: Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Jan Shakti Party, Chandra Shekhar's Samajwadi Janata Party, VP Singh's Jan Chetna Manch, Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party and HD Deve Gowda's Janata Dal (Secular).
Sources say the Lok Jan Shakti's Ram Vir Singh Bidhuri will be in charge of the front's poll activities. The parties have already met for the first round of informal talks, and have decided to contest all 70 seats in the assembly, sources added.
The five parties have a following among the socially and economically backward sections of the electorate, and Muslims.
They have the potential of influencing results in about 40 seats, mainly in the Walled City area and in the Karol Bagh, East Delhi, South Delhi and Outer Delhi Lok Sabha constituencies.
Other Backwards Castes (OBCs) are estimated to make up 20 per cent of Delhi's population; while Dalits and Muslims make up 15 per cent and 10 per cent respectively.
