Every dog, they say, has its day. And what a day, a street dog enjoyed on Thursday, when it entered a house in Line Bazaar locality at Mirganj in north Bihar’s Gopalganj district and actually ran away with Rs. 4 lakh kept in a polythene wrap.

The whole town is now running and gunning for the dog, which is traceless.

Nakched Mian, a green grocer does not know how to react to the situation, where he can neither press charges, nor actually explain away the presence of such huge cash in his house.

He has, however, gathered his wits to file a station dairy, since the police told him, 'a criminal charge is out of question'.

Desperate, Nakched has started a hunt for the 'mercenary' dog, but to no avail.

His plight has turned worse, since his complaint has just drawn ridicule and laughs. But then, the grapevine is, that all dogs are under scrutiny by bounty hunters who hope to catch the dog and keep the cash.

In his written complaint, Nakched has mentioned that his son, living abroad, had sent him Rs. 3 lakh, while another Rs. 1 lakh came from his business.

“I had kept Rs. 4 lakh in a polythene bag. It was on my bed. As I went to wash my hands at the hand pump, I saw a dog running away with the bag. I gave a hot chase, but it disappeared in the locality,” he added.

Nakched said, he had kept the money to pay someone. “I had bought a piece of land, but now I cannot pay the money,” he added.

Police, however, tried to console him, saying that the dog might have run away with polythene mistaking it for some food item.

Later, Rs. 1.40 lakh was recovered near Nakched's house following a police search in the area.

“We are trying to put pressure on the locals to help, as the dog must have left the polythene somewhere,” he added.
