GEARING UP to make its presence felt on the international arena, the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) has formed special committees with the sole task of keeping an eye on the technological and research advances taking place on the global front.

The committees have been entrusted with the task of recommending steps needed to be initiated at the Deemed University to keep it at par with the very best in the world.
The foremost among the committees formed is a Technology Watch Group which is being personally headed by the MNNIT Director Prof Arun Baran Samaddar.
"This committee will keep a close watch on the technological advances taking place in various fields in different parts of the world. On the basis of its observations, the committee members will recommend steps we need to take at the MNNIT to compete with the best institutes of technical education and research," Prof Samaddar said.
Similarly, the Research and Consultancy Committee will henceforth keep a tap of the cutting edge researches taking place in various branches of engineering and technology and suggest the thrust areas on which the Institute needs to focus keeping in mind the emerging demands. "This committee will also pave way for MNNIT's extending its expertise to various firms by way of providing consultancy services," Prof Samaddar explained.
He said that a Planning and Development Committee headed by Dean (Planning and Development) has been also formed that would chalk out developmental projects for the institute and also plan the steps needed to improve our infrastructure in the coming years. "Realising the need for developing better interaction with the various industrial houses and companies, we have also formed an Institute-Industry Interaction Committee which will build bridges with various established firms so that focused researches, better placement for our graduates as well as specialised training to industry employees can be given by us," he added.
Prof Samaddar said that a Disaster Mitigation and Management Committee and a Community Development Cell too have been formed by the Institute to help it develop technology that can be effective during natural disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes and help suggest better ways of managing them.
To improve the functioning and administration of the Deemed University, now onwards a number of committees will look at specific problems and issues concerning the Institute in a move that is being seen as a major step towards decentralisation at MNNIT. "A Library and Learning Resources Committee, an Alumni Affairs Committee, Computers and Communication Committee as well as Information and Public Relations Committee have also been formed at MNNIT.
These are besides the Health Care Committee, Staff Welfare Committee, Electrical and Civil Maintenance Committee as well as a few statutory committees like Grievance Committee formed as per the instructions of the Ministry of HRD that will be functional in the Institute," he added.
