A two-letter message ``KL" is enough to alert militant groups that a group either caught in an encounter or stationed somewhere belongs to a particular organization. Similarly `KM' stands for a fellow militant being killed, KN for a fight, KR-for meeting tonight, J2 for Hindu and JQ for hideout.

These are few of the thousands of common codes that the various militant organizations like Lashkar, Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish are using to communicate with each other. A new matrix word code chart has been recovered by police during one of the recent encounters in the state.

This police say is important as intercepts and interrogation of arrested militants reveal that various militant organizations in Kashmir have joined hand to fight the Indian security forces.

``When some groups operate together they have to have a common communication code, these are the codes the groups use to communicate with each other, said Hemant Kumar Lohia, DIG Central Kashmir range.

``We have intelligent inputs that due to decrease in the ranks and strength of the militant, various organizations like Lashkar and Hizbul Mujahideen have joined hands and are doing joint operations, said Lohia.

According to police, intelligent inputs suggest that the militant handlers across the border are putting pressure on the militant groups to join hands. ``Earlier there used to be fight regarding territory but the case is different now, he added.

Police says they however are not unnerved. ``We are prepared for fight militants; it doesn’t matter whether it is individually or they are together. The only positive thing is that the manpower is reducing and they are forced to join hands, he said.

Army had on Sunday said that infiltration has gone up in the valley and the security forces were expecting more attacks this year. Army had also said 400 militants were ready to cross over.
