Kidney racket accused files bail plea

Raising the issue of conjugal rights of undertrials, the brother of Gurgaon's kidney racket kingpin, Jeewan Kumar, has filed an interim bail for progeny. Kumar pleaded before CBI special judge AS Narang that he got married in February 2005, but the couple was issueless.

He told the court that his wife was treated for infertility for a year, but following his arrest, the treatment had to be discontinued. Also, due to his absence, his wife could not conceive. He also stated that his wife had turned 35 and doctors had advised that it was high time, so she should conceive.

He said that it was not possible for his wife to undergo in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment for conceiving a child without him.

He added that there were 250 witnesses in the case and only seven had been examined, who made no specific allegations against him. He cited that the trial would take a long time.

Kumar is facing trial in kidney racket case for criminal conspiracy, forgery, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation.
