Khanduri for powerful Lokayukt and bringing CM in its purview

In his second tenure as chief minister of Uttarakhand, Maj Gen (retd) BC Khanduri has indicated that he intends to set some examples. Among his priorities CM said he is for a giving more teeth to Lokayukt in state and brining CM in its ambit.

Khanduri has also directed IAS officials and ministers to declare assets in one-month time. Khanduri made it clear that the move is aimed at making system transparent. Khanduri shared his decisions at Sunday afternoon at secretary after meeting his cabinet colleagues.

“I am influenced with the Anna Hazare’s campaign. I am also for making powerful Lokayukta in state and bringing chief minister in its ambit. Government will find ways to make the body more powerful” Khanduri told reporters. He added “IAS officials and minister also must declare the details of their assets in a month time”.

The BJP government has faced graft allegations in past. Khanduri said some of such charges have been challenged in court and nevertheless he and his government are for giving clear governance.

"I will order for probe if any such (graft) cases comes to me and will probe even it is against those sitting in high offices", said Khanduri. On being asked that team Anna’s proposes to take Yatras in the boll bound states (including Uttarakhand), Khanduri said he has no issues with it.

Khanduri said he too mulling following the Bihar pattern. "Bihar has recently opened up a school on a benami property and we plan to follow the same in Uttarakhand."
