Kejriwal timeline: Civil servant to Street-fighter to CM

From graduating as mechanical engineeri from IIT Kharagpur and being employed at Tata Steel, Jamshedpur till 1992 to spending time working with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, Arvind Kejriwal's life has been anything but uneventful.

1989-92: Graduates in mechanical engineering from IIT Kharagpur; employed at Tata Steel, Jamshedpur till 1992; spends time working with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata

1995-6: Joins the Indian Revenue Service; Works as joint commissioner, income-tax department, resigns in Feb 2006

1999: Establishes NGO Parivartan, a Delhi based citizens’ group that wants to ensure a just and accountable governance

2000-2005: Becomes part of the core group that launched a movement for Right to Information. The Act gets passed in 2005

2006: Wins Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership

2006-09: Sets up the Public Cause Research Foundation funded by the Magsaysay Award money

2011-12: Joins Anna Hazare to mobilise the masses to demand the creation of a Lokpal; in November 2012 Team Anna splits with Kejriwal taking the stand of direct politics to change the system

2012 – Kejriwal launches the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on November 26.

2013 – Defeats Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in her constituency in the 2013 Delhi assembly polls. Takes office as Chief Minister of Delhi on 28 December; five days since his swearing-in, he announced free water, a 50 per cent cut in electricity tariffs, the audit and, new shelters for the homeless within 48 hours

2014 -- Threatens to resign if he is not able to get Jan Lokpal Bill passed by the state Assembly; meets Anna Hazare for the first time on Feb 10 after he became Delhi Chief Minister; orders FIR against Mukesh Ambani, Oil minister Veerappa Moily.

Feb 14, 2014 - CM Kejriwal resigns after Aam Aadmi Party fails to table Jan Lokpal Bill in the Parliament. His government lasts 49 days.
