The former minister of state for home and Sirsa MLA Gopal Kanda, an accused in air hostess Geetika Sharma suicide case, who was on Thursday granted interim bail by a Delhi court till October 4 for attending state assembly session, was accorded a warm welcome by several Congress MLAs inside Vidhan Sabha here on Friday.

Kanda, who had been in the jail for over a year, reached the assembly around 2.40 pm, made a quiet entry and resumed his seat which was next to the Congress Hisar MLA Savitri Jindal, who, a bit surprised, greeted him warmly. However, while the din in the House was still on, several Congress MLAs could be seen rushing to him to greet him.

While Kalanaur MLA Shakuntala Khatak rushed to him and shook hands with him, the Nuh MLA Aftab Ahmed hugged him for a long time. Subsequently, other party MLAs including Sukhbir Kataria, BB Batra, Ram Kishan Fauji and Ram Kishan Gurjar were also seen warmly exchanging greetings. The Nalwa MLA Sampat Singh came separately to meet Kanda.

However, BJP leader in House Anil Vij, who had been suspended for the session, triggered off yet another tiff when he on his way out, asked the treasury benches to send Kanda out for being an accused in infamous suicide case. The treasury benches could be seen jeering at Vij for his remarks.
