The online registration module, developed last year by the students as part of the Deemed University's ongoing automation process, for the third consecutive time, has impressed one and all with its sturdiness, simplicity and reliability that saw around 2000 students get registered for their courses without any hiccups— with just some fellow students overseeing the entire registration process!
"We are delighted with the results. This system will now be a feature of the Institute's registration process for years to come. BTech (CS) final-year students Chetan Arya, Nishith Gupta, Vikas K Bansal and Nanchan Handa spent a few hundred man-hours in designing the software and putting it together," informed Swetank Shekhar, a BTech (CS)-III student who is now maintaining the system.
He informed that a team comprising of some BTech(CS)-II students including Rishi Bansal, Amar Kumar Dubey and Darpan Gupta, are also working on the software. "This system was designed under the guidance of Prof Krishna Kant, Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department, and Dr Rakesh Mathur, Dean (academic affairs) and is now a big hit," he added.
Between December 28-30, 2005, the software was used for the third time for on-line registration process.
"More than 2,000 students of different courses like BTech, MTech, MCA, MMS and PhD were registered for their evening semester during the three days.
The entire show was managed by students including Vaibhav Goel, Sumeet Mahajan, Gaurav Rana, Mahesh Bansal, Sourabh Gupta, Abhishek Yadav, Abhay Singh, Sunil Kumar Rai, Ravi Kiran Mokkarala and Arihant Surana," Swetank said.
He informed that the students as well as the faculty members have expressed their satisfaction with the software as it has greatly reduced the unnecessary overhead. "Now the students register through the Internet using the software and it takes just a few seconds at the registration counter in the institution which earlier required an entire 9 am to 5 pm shift.
MNNIT Director Prof AB Sammadar too expressed his happiness with the success of the project. "The software is great and is an example that clearly shows that our students have now developed the capability for not only managing the work at their professional places but can also help their alma mater," he said.
Prof Sammadar informed that the students' team that developed the software has been given a stipend of Rs 5000 per month to encourage them.
Apart from this, the college is also running an on-line tabulation process which has also been designed by Chetan, Vikas and Nishith and is being looked after now by Swetank Shekhar.
