India frowns on stir by exiles
The Indian Govt has condemned anti- China protests by Tibetan refugees in New Delhi, reports Gaurav Bisht.
Furious over the killings of Tibetans in Chinese controlled Tibet, large numbers of Tibetans took to the streets again on Saturday raising anti China slogans , while a smaller group resumed the ‘Return March to Tibet’ from Dehra, the same town at which 100 marchers had been arrested on Thursday.
The Indian government reacted ing the renewed protest. “Tibetan refugees are our guests in India. They are expected to refrain from political activities and such activities as affect our relations with other friendly countries,” said MEA spokesman Navtej Sarna.
Earlier, the protesters took the police completely unawares. They burnt effigies of Chinese president Hu Jintao and the Chinese flag in the main square. Later they came in a procession to Dharamshala and headed further towards Kangra town before they were stopped at Baghli, eight km from Dharamshala.
About 300 of the protesters however managed to evade the police cordon and proceeded to Dehra where 100 earlier marchers are already being held in jail. Another small group led by Chime Youngdrung, president, National Democratic Party of Tibet, resumed the “Return March to Tibet’ which had been stopped two days earlier. They were allowed to cross into Kangra.
