THE LABOUR department will launch a statewide drive to implement the Minimum Wages Act from tomorrow in all industrial units.

The drive will be launched following the State Government directive to ensure proper implementation of the Minimum Wages.
The unorganised sector included agriculture, shops, commercial establishments and industrial units.
In compliance with the order, labour commissioner RK Pandey has constituted nine teams. Senior officials of the rank of assistant labour commissioners will lead the campaign.
Four teams have been assigned the task of implementing the Minimum Wages Act in the city, and the remaining five teams will implement the Act in Kanpur Dehat, Farukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah and Auraiyya.
Assistant labour commissioners JP Singh and SP Gupta will head two teams in Kanpur city. Assistant labour commissioner SL Bharti will lead the teams in Kanpur Dehat. The drive was to be launched from Monday but due to scarcity of staff, it will be launched from Tuesday.
Talking to HT, a senior official of the labour office said the staff were engaged in the verification of voters’ list and photo identity cards. This resulted caused delay in launching the drive by a day.
Assistant labour commissioner JP Singh said during the drive it would be ensured that those working in the unorganised sector got the minimum wages of around Rs 2600.
The department issued special directives to its officials to verify all the documents of the industrial units and commercial establishments at the time of implementing the Act, he said.
“We will confirm whether the industrial units and commercial establishments are maintaining all essential documents or not,” Singh further said.
If any unit was found violating the labour commissioner’s orders, a warning would be issued to unit concerned. Later, a penal action would be taken against it, he said. pawandixit1@gmail.com
