HC stays quota GO, CPMT-2006 list

DIRECTOR GENERAL Medical Education will take up the matter of admission of CPMT-2006 candidates in private colleges with the State Government on Thursday.

After the stay on the July 10 government order by the division bench of the Allahabad High Court, the DGME office, which has been conducting the CPMT counselling, is worried about the future of candidates. It feels that problems may arise for at least 150 candidates, who are yet to take admission to private dental and medical colleges.

The division bench today stayed the GO which provided for 65 pc quota for govt seats and 35 pc for private unaided dental colleges in Uttar Pradesh.

The notification issued in persuance to the GO on July 11 and the list prepared after counselling of CPMT-2006 have also been stayed.

The Bench comprising Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice Rajiv Sharma passed the  interim order on twin writ petitions filed by Ram Murty Memorial Medical College, Bareilly, through Manish Kumar and Amit Jaiswal advocates.

It was urged on behalf of petitioners that the GO was violative of their rights to have hundred per cent quota in private unaided dental colleges of the State.

The petition shall come up for hearing after three weeks.

Commenting on the recent development, Director General Medical Education Dr Kamal Sahni said, “We are yet to get a copy of the court’s decision but if it favours private colleges, problems may appear before those candidates who are yet to take admission to private colleges.”

Dr Sahni said the impact of the order would not affect those students who had already taken admission but a clear picture would emerge only when the order came to her.
