Haryana elections: INLD likely to be the biggest loser

If the latest trends are an indication, the Haryana principal opposition party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), which had 31 MLAs in the House of 90, seems to be the biggest loser in the assembly poll.

A sharp decline in the numbers of INLD leading candidates tend to show that the voters who had made up their minds to change ruling Congress because of various factors, (anti-incumbency inclusive), chose a new player BJP instead of state’s own INLD. This despite the sharply focused working of INLD which left no opportunity to highlight various public and farmers-centric issues, besides highlighting alleged corruption in the government.

The INLD, which was known to be a party of well-oiled organisation with strong cadre base and which had more than one or more MLAs in 18 of the total 21 districts of the state, has been wiped out in 13 according to the latest trends of the counting.

The INLD has not had even a single MLA in Rohtak, Sonepat and Jhajjar district since 2009, albeit, it had at least or more in rest of the 18 districts.

However, as the latest trends showing INLD candidates trailing with huge margins in most of the districts, the party fears a complete washout in Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Kaithal, Panipat, Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Rewari, Mahendergarh, Gurgaon and Palwal. It means, it has completely lost out in north and south Haryana.

However, it has its candidates on the top in the at least 17 assembly constituencies in Sirsa, Hisar, Bhiwani, Kurukshetra, Faridabad, Kurukshetra, Jind and Mewat.

Its currently standing in the assembly polls is also worrying INLD as it had recently won two Lok Sabha seats of the total 10 despite a strong Modi wave and reportedly had strong sympathy wave in the favour of INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala and his eldest son Ajay Chautala, who are in jail for the past over one-and-half years, in the JBT teachers recruitment case.
