The incident has started quite an animated debate among industry observers whether the Tatas will take the state’s assurances of fool-proof security seriously after this and resume work.
It also triggered a series of allegations and counter-allegations from the warring CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress-led Krishi Jami Raksha Committee (KJRC).
CPI(M) sources said five KJRC activists sneaked into the compound and stole construction materials. But KJRC leaders claimed they had no role in the incident.
“We have received the complaint and investigations are on. An FIR had been lodged with the Singur police station on Tuesday,” Rajeev Misra, SP of Hooghly district, said.
Ajoy Kumar and Samarendranath Sarkar, employees of the security services agency responsible for the internal security of the plant, tried to catch the trespassers. But they were overpowered and beaten up severely. Both were immediately rushed to the Singur block hospital.
Kumar, who was hit on the head, was released and Sarkar has been referred to Serampore Walsh Hospital for a CT scan. “He had no injury on his body, but we wanted to see if he had any internal injury.”
