The Crime Branch is preparing a dossier against 14 alleged Dawood aides, reports Abhishek Sharan.

The Crime Branch (CB) is preparing a dossier on the offences registered against 14 alleged Dawood Ibrahim aides, including the four detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) — Mohamed Shahidbhai, Mohammed Salim ‘Frut’, Aarif Bhaijaan (related to Dawood lieutenant Chhota Shakeel), and Iqbal Kalia. Abdul Qayyum, who has also been detained in the UAE, is not part of the dossier.

The dossier, said a senior officer who declined to be named, is being prepared in anticipation of the Union Home Ministry requesting the details to aid the gangsters’ deportation. So far, though, clarified DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kamlakar, “The UAE has not got in touch with us about the deportations.”

Over Thursday and Friday, CB headquarters sent wireless messages (Nos 2,263 and 414), asking 13 of its units to send details of the offences.

Apart from the four detained in the UAE, the CB list includes 1993 serial blasts accused Javed Chikna, who was till recently believed to be in Karachi under the Inter-Services Intelligence’s (ISI’s) protection.

Others on the list are: Yusuf Bachkana, Pattu Malabari, Nasir Pakki, Abdul Aziz alias Chaipani, Anjum Fajlani, Firoz ‘Cheda’, Habib ‘Tingu’, Mustafa ‘Malabari’ and Yusuf Bhai. Most of these criminals have cases of murder and extortion registered against them.

Sources said the five gangsters were picked up in connection with two recent offences in the UAE — an extortion complaint filed by an electronics store, and the murder of a bookie who fell out with the gang.

Police Commissioner AN Roy told HT, “We have seen media reports on the UAE detentions. Yes, we are collecting the data we have on them and other wanted gangsters.” When asked about the chances of a successful deportation, Roy said: “The Union Home Ministry has not got in touch with us yet. But if they do, we will be ready.”
