Both doctors were suspended on the report sent to the government by the district administration on Friday evening. Chief Development Officer Roshan Jacob and SDM Sadar CP Singh said the doctors had not provided adequate facilities in the labour room and also ignored humanitarian concerns at every level.

The husband of a pregnant HIV patient had charged the doctors for refusing to treat his wife when she was in labour, for fear of getting infected. He was forced to deliver the baby while the doctors stood by and watched.

But junior doctors are opposing the suspension. They are believed to have formed a group to raise the issue.
