Boy kills invigilator for not letting him cheat

A Class XII student, who was taking his Uttar Pradesh Board examinations, was booked for killing the centre in-charge for preventing him from cheating.

Gaurav Kumar has been arrested and sent to the jail under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code.

“Local police arrested the boy soon after the incident, and after the death of the centre in-charge, he was booked on charges of culpable homicide,” said SSP Gyan Singh.

The accused was taking the examination at Guru Nanak Inter College in Shekhpur village of Bijnore district. Ramkumar Singh was the centre in-charge there.

During the second shift of the examination on Wednesday, the centre in-charge had warned Gaurav against using unfair means and threatened to debar him from the examination.

The piqued boy returned to the examination centre 15 minutes after the examination got over and hit Ramkumar on the head from behind with a wooden staff.

Ramkumar was immediately taken to the civil hospital in Bijnore. He was then referred to Meerut where he succumbed to the injury on Thursday afternoon.

“Ramkumar paid a heavy price for disbursing his duties with honesty,” said Manoj Giri, District Inspector of School in Bijnore.

Education officials in the state face a tough time during UP Board examinations every year.

This year a flying squad caught nine girls using unfair means at an examination centre in Dhikauli village in Baghpat district. When DIOS Indu Bala Gaur recommended re-examination, she was charged with stripping the girls on the name of checking.

She wrote to the centre in-charge to lodge an FIR against the teachers who were accused of helping the students use unfair means during the exam. The step, however, yielded no result.

“They are pressurising me for a compromise and threatening to lodge a counter case,” said the DIOS, admitting that the ‘copying mafia’ can go to any length to demorlise officials.

Meanwhile, a flying squad found out another case of mass copying at Gajraj Singh Inter College in Barnawa, Bijnore, on Wednesday. The DIOS has cancelled the examination at the centre. “I have recommended re-examination of the paper,” said DIOS Gaur.
