Board tipped off Jaipur cops

It seems the BCCI had sniffed spot-fixing in T20 matches because of which a team of the apex cricket body had approached Jaipur city police during the first week of May after the police busted a cartel of bookies using high end gadgets for betting on matches.

The cops claim BCCI officials had a tip off about “something suspicious involving some cricketers”. The team members wanted vital information from the police who arrested eight persons and recovered a machine resembling mini telephone exchange capable of making about 500 calls at a time. The cops also recovered 150 SIM cards from the accused and seized records about betting from Shyam Nagar on May 5.

Sharing information
“After unearthing of this cartel, a three-member team of BCCI approached us for sharing information gathered from arrested bookies. We shared whatever information we had at that time” Additional commissioner of police (crime) Girraj Lal Meena told HT.

Jaipur police is now collating information about all cases involving bookies. The officials feel it may be required to share the information with their Delhi counterparts.

“So far, we have not received any call from Delhi police for getting any information. However, we have already sent some information about recent cases to Delhi police” said Jaipur police commissioner Biju George Joseph.

The police claim bookies have links in Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, and Dubai. However, the police have so far been unable to establish these links.
