ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) administration has decided to crack down on illegal inmates staying put in its hostels despite completion of their terms.
The varsity administration, as per its latest decision, will concentrate specially on evicting inmates who have already lived in one or the other of its hostels for the past eight years.
"As per existing norms, a student is allowed to stay in varsity hostels upto a maximum of seven to eight years depending on the course being pursued by a student. While an Arts student is ideally allowed to stay in a hostel for seven years keeping in mind three years needed for completing his graduation and two years for his post-graduation with one or two years as grace as per the discretion of the varsity. Similarly, for an LLB student or research scholar the upper limit is eight years in total in which his UG and PG stays are also taken into consideration," informed Dean Students Welfare (DSW) of AU Prof Jagdamba Singh.
Prof Singh said that with new admissions at its peak, the varsity administration has decided to launch eviction drives from August end itself this year rather than waiting for October as was being done earlier.
"The aim is to help the new students get possession of their room in time so as to enable them to concentrate on their studies. For this, we had convened a meeting in June and even sent letter to the wardens and the superintendents of all the hostels requesting them to forward us list of students who have completed the tenure of their stay at the hostels," he added.
The DSW office has already received lists of such students from six of the hostels including Diamond Jubilee, PC Bannerjee and AN Jha besides Shatabdi Girls, Priya Darshini and Sarojini Naidu Girls hostels.
"The rest of the hostels will be forwarding their lists within the next two weeks.
The hostellers whose terms have finished are also being given notices informing them that they require to vacate their rooms immediately," `he said.
Prof Singh said that so far the AU administration have identified 60 such students who are continuing to reside in hostels despite their terms having already finished during the last academic session itself. "
We will be evicting them first during our drive if they fail to act as per notices already served to them," he warned.
