Ajay Singh
Ajay Singh has become a senior leader of the Madhya Pradesh Congress and held the important portfolio of Panchayat, Rural development and Tourism.
Although comparatively still very young, Ajay Singh is today one of the senior leaders of the Madhya Pradesh Congress. However, many attribute his influence and power to his father, veteran Congress leader Arjun Singh.
Born on September 23, 1955 at Allahabad, he has held important portfolio of Panchayat, Rural development and Tourism in the state. He has a master's degree in Economics.
Having entered politics at a young age, Ajay was elected to the state assembly for the first time from Churhat assembly segment in Sidhi district in 1985 and then again in 1991.
During 1993 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Ajay Singh agreed to the wishes of Congress high command to take on former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and BJP leader Sunderlal Patwa from Bhojpur assembly constituency in Raisen district. Although he lost, he made it a spectacular contest and won praises for giving Patwa a very tough time.
During 1998 assembly elections, Ajay Singh returned to his native place in Churhat, once represented by his father and won convincingly. He was later inducted into the state cabinet by Digvijay Singh as a Tourism Minister.
