The state government has written a stern letter to the KDA authority soliciting details of 10 city schools that came into existence in blatant violation of land use laws.

The government has also sought names of 10 Kanpur Development Authority engineers who turned a ‘blind eye’ to the goings-on. The extent of the irregularities by the KDA officials can be gauged from the fact that the 10 schools are successfully running their institutions without even getting the map cleared.

The letter, number 1816/8-5-06 33 I/06 dated 10-6-06 written by Secretary (Housing) KL Meena, has also solicited the names of the 10 KDA engineers with whose connivance the land use (from residential to commercial for the construction of school buildings) was changed.

Meena in his letter has clearly instructed Kanpur Development Authority officials to complete the inquiry within three days and submit complete information along with the names of the schools and KDA officials involved in the scandal to the state government.

The schools, all situated at Bithoor and Kalyanpur area of the city, include two Delhi Public Schools at Azadnagar and Kalyanpur, Jain Public School, Montara School, Surja Devi, Gaurav International, Ashram Paditi Vidhyalaya, Guru Nanak, Model International School and a primary school situated at Bithoor.

Meanwhile, the Kanpur Development Authority top brass has started making frantic efforts to save his men. Old files are being scrutinized once again by senior officials of the KDA to submit such a report which can pull the 10 engineers out of the mess.

It may be pointed out that a drive against land mafias is already going on in the city and a comprehensive list has been already prepared by the KDA. But any concrete action against these land mafias is yet to be taken. Land mafias who have illegally grabbed a large area of the KDA land but the development authority could not do a thing against them.
