Wi-Fi services inaugurated in PM Modi’s adopted villages in Varanasi

Jayapur and Nagepur are the first and second villages respectively that Prime Minister Narendra Modi adopted under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana in his parliamentary constituency. 

The minister chatted with some locals on internet through Wi-Fi and hotspot services in the villages. He appealed to the locals to motivate the youths to use the services for enhancing their knowledge and communication. 

This Wi-Fi hotspot service has been started under Bharat Net project, under which 870 gram panchayats of Varanasi district will be connected on optical fibre cable. The project is a part of the Digital India initiative, one of the pet-projects of the prime minister. 

The minister also inaugurated Next Generation Network Value Added Services and dedicated 86 base transceiver stations (BTS) installed under phase 7 in Varanasi.

He dedicated 20 numbers of the 2G BTS sites, 38 numbers of 3G BTS sites and 28 number of sites with 2G+3G BTS to the public. As many as 5000 lines of the Next Generation Network Switch LMG at Cantt Exchange and 2000 lines LMG at the DLW Gate Exchange were started on Saturday.

New BSNL schemes launched

Union telecommunication minister Manoj Sinha launched schemes to boost BSNL landline services in Varanasi on Saturday. The initiatives include the ‘Sunday free calling scheme’ and a plan wherein landline connection can be obtained for Rs 49 per month on a pan-India basis. 

The Sunday free calling scheme allows BSNL users to make unlimited free calls from the BSNL landline to any mobile network or landline on Sunday. Another scheme wherein one can avail the BSNL landline connection for just Rs 49 per month is for the new customers.

“From August 15, new and present BSNL landline users will enjoy free calling from BSNL landline to any mobile network or land line across the country each Sunday. Besides, the present unlimited free calling scheme on BSNL landline between 9pm and 7am on other days will continue,” the minister said. 

“The new customers can avail BSNL landline services at Rs 49 per month for first six months. After six months, the customers shall be charged as per the fixed monthly charges of general plan in respective area,” the minister said, adding that this scheme was pan-India. 

He expressed hope that the two schemes would be appreciated by the users.
