Amid row between the Centre and Opposition parties over the recent disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as a Lok Sabha MP, filmmaker shares an ‘idea’ to show solidarity to the Congress leader.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri on Friday shared an ‘idea’ where he suggested all Congress MPs and MLAs to go for mass resignation as a sign of solidarity to Rahul Gandhi after he was disqualified today as a Lok Sabha member. He also took a jibe at the Opposition parties and asked them to join the ‘resignation movement’ as well.

“What if all MPs & MLAs of Congress en masse resign in solidarity to @RahulGandhi to prove the point democracy is indeed dead. And then all opposition parties join in the resignation movement. This would be a good character test of all those who say democracy is dead,” he said in a tweet.

The Congress leader has been disqualified as a Lok Sabha member after a local court in Gujarat convicted him in a criminal defamation case. The Surat court gave him a two-year term for his ‘Modi surname’ remark ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Agnihotri also claimed that the ‘entire Opposition is happy' for the fact that ‘they won’t be branded as Rahul’s partners’. He was responding to former Congress leader Sanjay Jha's claim that ‘BJP has united the entire Opposition’.

“The entire opposition is so happy today that now they won’t be branded as Rahul’s partners - an image they can’t do anything about. Some are also celebrating and their photos may leak out soon,” the filmmaker said.

Rahul Gandhi's disqualification has erupted a row between the BJP and the Congress along with other Opposition parties. BJP said Rahul Gandhi ‘abused’ the entire other backward classes (OBC) through his speech and added that insulting any surname is not ‘freedom of speech’. Targetting the Centre, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said the opposition leaders in this country have become the prime target of the BJP.
