Uttarakhand tunnel collapse Highlights: Govt releases regionwise list of trapped workers

While conducting the rescue mission for the 41 trapped workers in the collapsed under-construction tunnel in Uttarkashi, the government provided adequate food for them on Tuesday.

Abhishek Ramola, owner of the hotel where food for the trapped people was prepared, said, “We have cooked food for the people trapped inside. We are giving rice and paneer today in the food. We have made around 150 packets for them. All items have been prepared under the supervision of the doctor...We have given all easy-to-digest food.”

Uttarakhand tunnel collapse LIVE: Naresh Rana, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology at Delhi University, spoke about the tunnel collapse and the workers trapped in Uttarkashi, saying, “The incident took place when people (workers) were probably replacing the temporary support system with the permanent lining. There is a lot of pressure in underground tunnels, and when we excavate those tunnels, this pressure gets disturbed, and we have to divert it along certain structures.”

Uttarkashi tunnel collapse LIVE: Addressing the media on Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that while there will be a thorough investigation into the ‘suspicions’, the immediate priority is the rescue of the 41 workers trapped inside the partially collapsed tunnel section.

When questioned about a future investigation into the Uttarkashi tunnel incident, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "Action will definitely be taken against all suspicions but right now the priority is for all workers to come out safely..."

Uttarakhand tunnel collapse LIVE: Indrajit Kumar, brother of a trapped worker inside the collapsed part of Silkyara tunnel said that he has been talking to him everyday and that all the workers are safe there.

"I have been talking to him everyday. Today also I talked via the big pipe which was inserted. They all are safe inside," Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI.

It is expected that the drilling from the Silkyara side will commence on Day 10 of the rescue operations of Uttarakhand tunnel collapse, to save the lives of 41 trapped workers.

Uttarakhand PM Pushkar Singh Dhami talked about the progress made in the rescue operations for the 41 trapped workers. He said now workers are able to get cooked food through a pipe, and Centre has provided all their assistance to help the state.

International tunneling expert Arnold Dix has said that the vertical drilling to rescue the 41 trapped workers will start soon, as it is important that it is done keeping in mind utmost precaution and safety.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami again on Tuesday to track the progress of the tunnel collapse rescue operations.

The rescue team is in the process of drilling an escape route from two sides to aide the 41 trapped workers, who are currently being fed through a smaller 6-inch supply pipe.

After an endoscopy camera, the rescue teams are planning on sending mobile phones inside the collapsed tunnel in an effort to help the trappen workers speak to their families.

Uttarakhand HC has given Centre 48 hours to issue a response regarding what measures have been taken to rescue the 41 workers trapped in the rubble of the tunnel collapse in Uttarkashi.

An endoscopy camera was used to navigate through the rubble and grab the first visuals of the trapped workers in the Uttarakhand tunnel collapse in 10 days.

The first visuals of the 41 workers trapped inside the rubble was released by the rescue operatives after a six inch pipe was inserted through the crash to reach the trapped men.

The rescue workers on site have been trying to establish a clearer contact with the trapped men inside the rubble.

The horizontal boring and vertical drilling to build a 53 meter tunnel for rescuing trapped workers is set to resume soon. The procedure was halted after hitting a minor snag, for the safety of those trapped inside.

In a small victory, a wider 6-inch pipe was inserted into the rubble to make sure that the supply of food, oxygen, water and medical supplies is increased for the 41 trapped workers.
